Gundam 08th Ms Team Op
Soo.08th MS Team.Compared to 0079 this is a huge upgrade across the board. The gundam designs are good.
I didn't like RX-78 because it has this odd look. I described it as bulky and blocky originally, and while the RX-79 basically looks the same, it has a slightly more reinforced look to it. Thicker plating makes it more plausible to use a design like that, even if it would make it much less mobile.Which it seems to do for the most part. This is not a fast moving gundam that jumps in your face, and I enjoyed the weight it held as it attacked, even if it did fly a couple times.Fight scenes were generally better. Projectile weapons look better and more distinguished.
'79 had a problem where sometimes their gattling fire looked like it could just be beam rifle fire. The Guntanks in particular were a huge upgrade. I could tell they had artillery on their shoulder cannons, not just more beam guns. But none of this actually matters. Its just the dressing. Let's get into the actual meat of this and lets stop comparing it to something that came almost two decades prior.08th MS team teters back and forth between exactly what I'm looking for in Gundam and exactly what I hate in story telling.
Sometimes its got this short, concise story that balances both sides of a war conflict, highlighting both the good and the bad parts of both factions. Sometimes it wants there to be romance that kinda comes out of nowhere.I'm sorry, Aina, but he just fucked up your Zaku with a BALL and now you're a romantic interest?
Would Shiro have just fallen for any girl that popped up out of a mech? If Aina hadn't done it, would he have tried to put Joshua in the bone zone?
Gundam 08th Ms Team Episodes
Its such a hamfisted, awful romance. Remove it from the plot, rip the end of the last episode out, you lose nothing. The characters are, at least, somewhat interesting.
Sanders has that tragic past. Elodore doesn't want to be a soldier. Michel wants to be with his B.B. Joshua's the only real competent soldier but its this variety that really brings the team together. Seeing them in the little bit of downtime they got during the time Shiro was sentenced to quarters while they decided what to do with him was interesting. (Sanders in Piano is great.)As far as Shiro goes. I can't help but feel like he belongs in Symphogear Nanoha Macross 7 sometimes.
After his second meet-up with Aina, he just wants everyone to get along.Shiro is actually my least favorite character, and that really spoiled a lot of my enjoyment of the series. He's just loaded up with plot-armor, coming back from any situation. We don't get to see his backstory. We get the occasional mild flash of intelligence but nothing to really suggest he was anything special. He probably wasn't a newtype.
He certainly doesn't have a reason to have accomplished half of what he did. It's mostly just dumb luck and that's not good writing. And the cop out 'He's alive!' At the end of episode 12 is.God I want to scrub that scene out.I don't necessarily like it when a character dies, but fake-outs are typically worse. On the enemy side of things, we really only had Ginias this time. I mean, Aina was technically there. But she's barely a character. I really can't tell you much about her other than she doesn't want war after the half-way point and she's in love with Shiro.Ginias was pretty evil. But that was downplayed at first and escalated as time went on.
I feel like him and Doctor John Wayne Vercingetorix would get along well.A real highlight of the series for me, honestly, was the fight between Norris and 08th team. I like the Gouf design a lot already, but the way he fought was fantastic. I like the new and improved heat wire, too.I haven't figured out how I'm rating 08th MS team. It's a shorter, easier watch than 0079, and while there are some parts that I loved, but other parts heavily weighed it down.In other words, when Gundam's good. Its good. But damn if every season so far can't have something for me to dislike a lot. I am glad to hear that you at least had fun with most of the series Comrade, even if you didn't quite like the Romeo and Juliet part of 'Romeo and Juliet in the Vietnam War with Giant Robots.' Also I do quite like your idea of Ginias and Doktor Gintoki Joestar, methinks the two were probably penpals at one point.
(If they ever met, we'd surely experience the heat death of the universe.)A real highlight of the series for me, honestly, was the fight between Norris and 08th team. I like the Gouf design a lot already, but the way he fought was fantastic. I like the new and improved heat wire, too.HELL YEAH COMRADE! You share my sentiment towards the 08th MS. I was a fan of the setup and of plenty of individual episodes but the Romeo and Juliet plotline didn't stick for me.
It was sweet but not given enough time to develop well. Also the villain sucked, and not in a 'grey zone no real bad guy way' since Ginias while understandable was villainous AF.Some episodes like the first one and the one where Kiki's town gets attacked are super good.As for extra content, Episode 12 is a fucking atrocity.
Gundam 08th Ms Team
Wipe that from your memory if you can. There's an extra fight scene modernly animated somewhere out there that's pretty dank. No idea about Miller's Report but I hear good things.A bit of a shame, I really thought you'd enjoy 08th MS.
It's one of the more 'grounded' stories with an increased focus on the mechs being mechs. Glad you still see the charm in Gundam tho.
Mobile Suit Gundam 08th Ms Team Opening
My suggestion is now to start Zeta whenever you feel like it. And as always keep me posted. Its on hold 6 episodes in because I kind of just hate the TitansWell Comrade, to be fair, Director and Writer KINDA made hating The Titans intentional as The Titans are basically the Totalitarian Secret Police, just IN SPACE!
(And with Giant Robots of Course)Also, I promise you that Zeta Gundam is FANTASTIC, it's one of the best shows in the Gundam Franchise. If you would like another suggestion, I can say that Gundam Build Fighters is a HELL of a time, it's got ALL the HYPE of Symphogear AND also more TOURNAMENT ARC than Girls und Panzer!Anyway, have a great day Comrade!.
