There are parts of the Horus Heresy series where characters comment on the lost legions but are met with the information that they are 'forever lost'. The emperor discovered the 20 primachs and all the legions took part in the crusade. Statues were built at terra for all of them but the second and eleventh two were destroyed. Probably intentionally.Neither legion took sides in the heresy. We also know that the space wolves had experience and training for eliminating legions before prospero, so perhaps they were destroyed by the space wolves.Horus briefly visits the cryo pods in a vision where he reflects on the eleventh primach, mourning 'what could have been'.
He is overcome by rage and attacks the pod before they are all swallowed by a vortex. In Horus heresy book 6 there is a picture of a marine with unknown markings in mk2 armor who wears symbols that would indicate he fought with the emperor before or at the very beginning of the great crusade. He is not listed as a blackshield or as part of a known black-shield force. I really think its a hit at it being one of the original lost legion marines taking back his old heraldry. Marines from all sorts of chapters formed their own groups or fell away from their own legion, maybe one of the many who became part of the ultramarines may have gone back to his old 'legion' and just tried to find a way to fight there. I copy paste this every time someone brings up the lost legions:I know it sucks but you really shouldn't read to much into the canon of the lost legions because there isn't any. The reality is they are not talked about because a story for them doesn't exist. They were included in the game as a blank space for players to create their own legions and make up their own stories.I think the only way we'll ever get an actual story written about the lost chapters is if 40k were about to die out and GW did it as a cash grab. So you should hope that it never happens.
It's amazing. They've expanded the history of the 40k canon to unbelievable levels. I had never thought a HH series would be this in depth and expansive when they talked about starting it all those years ago. Not only has every single little detail been filled in that we were curious about they've added more and more to the whole picture.
